It has been said that worry is like a rocking chair. It uses up your energy but gets you nowhere. Interestingly, God has quite a bit to say about worry. It is not on His Top Ten list of things that He desires for us. In Matthew 6: 25,34 Jesus instructs us;
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or
drink, or about your body what you will wear. Is not life more than food,
and the body more than clothes? Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Why would God be concerned with our worrying? For starters, God's love is doubted by our worrying. It leaves us feeling like He doesn't care about our situation. Next, God's wisdom is doubted by worrying. It leaves us wondering if He knows how to handle our situation. Last, God's power is doubted by worrying. It leaves us questioning if He has the power to get us out of our situation. You may be thinking, "I'm a worrier, but I have never doubted God!" Well, here is the uncomfortable truth- worry and faith cannot reside in the heart at the same time. They are mutually exclusive terms. Faith says, "God, you handle my problem. I give it over to you." Worry, on the other hand, takes back from God what you just gave to Him in prayer. Faith is God handling your life, worry is you trying to handle your life.
Life becomes this one big tug of war between you and God. You give your fears, frustrations and failures over to God and then you snatch them back from Him when you start worrying. It makes no sense but we love to worry. Let God do His job in your circumstances today. He is fully qualified to meet your needs. His performance ratings are out of this world. Trust Him today.
